Kathmandu, Dec 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed on Nepal Academy's effective role so as to have an impact on the people.

While receiving annual progress report of the Academy at his official residence at Baluwatar today, PM Oli appreciated the role of the Academy in institutionalizing and glorifying the arts, literature and diverse social harmony.

He added that the people are looking forward to the academy's help in transforming the society through circulation of positive thought. PM Oli, who is also the chief patron of the Academy, said that the Academy should expand its scope to make every Nepali feel ownership over the institution, and for this the government was ready to help.

PM Oli said that physical infrastructure development, capacity building and its linkages to the people would prove significant to transforming the society.

In a different context, PM Oli said though he had a great dream of developing the nation, massive earth quake and border blockade has laid obstructions to the same. He added that the loss as a result of the incidents was not only physical and economic but would have a deep social effect as well, which would take a long time to revive.

Similarly, Chancellor at the academy Ganga Prasad Upreti said lack of infrastructure development, budget and human resources was hampering the Academy efforts to make its role effective.  He further proposed the goal of making the academy independent through professional projects and establishing a historical museum and library in the academy premises.

Meanwhile, the academy submitted its 2071\72 annual progress report to PM Oli. The academy has been carrying out research on various subjects, publishing books and holding seminars among others.

Upreti said that the academy published 16 books of various types and held various 60 orientation programmes in previous fiscal year.

The academy had demanded that the government increase its annual budget every year to around Rs 200 million from existing Rs 80 million. RSS
