Bhaktapur, Dec. 13: Bhaktapur district has been declared fully literate district.
Addressing a function held at Bhaktapur durbar square today, Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel declared Bhaktapur the 20th fully literate district of the district.
On the occasion, Minister Pokharel also handed over a prize of Rs. 500,000 to the District Education Office, Bhaktapur for achieving the feat.
The Education Minister said that all the 75 districts of the country would be made fully literate within the next one year. It was however targeted to be achieved within 2015.
Of the total population of Bhaktapur, 96.74 per cent or 298,704 people are now fully literate and hence leading to the district becoming a fully literate district. Continued literacy classes shall be organized to ensure that the remaining 9,741 too become literate, said Local Development Officer of Bhaktapur Pashupati Babu Puri, who also chairs the Education Committee.
