Nepalgunj, Dec 14: A cold wave accompanied by dense fog cover has affected normal life in the districts of the west Tarai since the last two days.
This condition has led to a dip in mercury and long hours of fog cover, making the life of the people difficult. The main cities in the western Tarai as Nepalgunj, Bardiya, Dhangadhi, Tikapur, Kohalpur and Kanchanpur have seen no sunshine for the last two days.
The cold spell has particularly affected the elderly, children and the poor people who do not have warm clothes and live in makeshift houses.
The number of people suffering from cold diarrhoea, cough and cold, typhoid, pneumonia and respiratory diseases has increased in the district with the increasing cold, according to local hospitals in these districts.
Air services to different destinations from these districts are also affected due to poor visibility, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Nepalgunj Office stated. It said either flights are cancelled or delayed due to the poor visibility.
Meanwhile, the District Agricultural Development Office has stated that the cold and lack of sunshine is likely to affect the mustard, legumes, wheat, chickpea and the winter vegetables. RSS
