Dhangadi, Dec 16: The locals in Kailali district have geared up to organize a month long Kumbha Mela, a religious gathering among the Hindus, at Godawari in the district with an objective to developing Gowari as a religious tourism site.
A Main Organizing Committee has been formed under the coordination of litterateur Padamraj Joshi for organizing the Mela from January 15 to February 13, 2016.
Various Sub-Committees also have been formed for the proper management for the event that is expected to bring together several Hindu leaders, including Sankaracharya from Uttarakhanda in India, saints and religious pilgrims, according to coordinator Joshi.
Currently, different tasks including construction of basic infrastructures like drinking water facility, cottages and huts, among others at the premises were underway.
The security bodies of the State--Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army, have been helping in building infrastructures where the government has pledge financial contribution worth Rs 4.5 million, it was shared. Similarly, the District Development Committee would also provide Rs 1 million for the same.
The Mela will take palce from Maghe Sankranti, a festivity marking the first day of Nepali month Magh on which day the Sun God to leave its southernmost position and begin its northward journey.
Various religious activities such as Yagya, Lakshya Hom, Vedic citation, Hym singing and ceremonies as marriage would be organised throughout the event.
Godawari, which is nestled in the lap of Chure mountain in some 22 kilometres south from Dhangadi, bears a great potential to be recognized as religious tourist spot. RSS
