Kathmandu, March 9: As many as 19 special class government officials enjoying double facilities from the government have applied for relinquishing one following the Ministry of General Administration's notification for the same.
The Council of Ministers had on January 22 decided to give the retired officials reappointed to government service or to a public post drawing salary from the state coffers on the basis of monthly remuneration option to relinquish either the pension they are drawing or the facilities they are provided by the office they are appointed to.
The MoGA had on January 25 issued a notice to that connection pursuant to the decision of the Council of Ministers. As per the notice, the retired officials getting reappointment are required to choose between their pension or their monthly salary whichever is greater in amount and give the information about this to the Pension Management Office within a month of the notice for record keeping purpose.
Although it is estimated that about a hundred such officials might be taking double benefit, only 19 persons have so far applied to the Civil Servant Records Keeping Office to relinquish one of the two benefits they have been drawing.
According to Under Secretary at the Office Rudra Prasad Pandit, those giving up one of the benefits include Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, lawmaker Ganesh Raj Joshi, member of the Public Service Commission Dr Govinda Kusum and chief commissioner at the National Information Commission Krishna Hari Baskota and Chief of the Commission of Inquiry on the Disappeared Persons Lokendra Mallik.
Also applying for the same are former government secretary Nabin Kumar Ghimire, Deep Basnyat, Khum Raj Punjali, among others.
However, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Anup Raj Sharma, and member of the Public Service Commission Ashok Kumar Jha, Brahmadev Raya, Shree Purush Dhakal, Krishna Chandra Jha and Binda Hada Bhattarai and others have not yet applied to give up one of the two benefits they are drawing.
