3 al-Qaida suicide bombers killed in explosion in Yemen's Aden

ADEN, Yemen, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Three suspected al-Qaida would-be suicide bombers were killed in a premature explosion in Yemen's southern port city of Aden on Wednesday afternoon, a police official told Xinhua.
The provincial police official said that "a premature explosion occurred inside a house in Aden's neighborhood of Daar Saad while preparing explosives for a terrorist attack in the province."
One of the suicide bombers detonated the explosives he was wearing mistakenly, killing himself and two other bombers at the scene,  the police source said.
According to local intelligence sources, the three suicide bombers were apparently heading to conduct three simultaneous attacks against pro-government forces in Aden.
On Saturday night, airstrikes launched by the Saudi-led warplanes and pounded al-Qaida-controlled positions and vehicles in the turbulent district of Mansourah in Aden province, leaving about 15 extremists killed.
The port city of Aden, Yemen's temporary capital, has been witnessing a state of chaos and lawlessness during the past months resulted in the assassination of Aden's former governor, several high-ranking security officers and judges.

Earlier this week, the pro-government forces air-covered by Saudi-led warplanes carried out a military operation to eliminate al-Qaida terror cells from Mansourah and Buraiga districts of Aden.
Yemen, an impoverished Arab country, has been gripped by one of the most active regional al-Qaida insurgencies in the Middle East and the affiliate of the Islamic State.
The security situation in the country has deteriorated since March 2015 when war broke out between the Shiite Houthi group, supported by former President Ali Abdullash Saleh, and the government backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition.
