Gaighat, March 21: Minister for Population and Environment Biswendra Paswan has said the government has adopted the policy of acting tough to check the rampant mining and export of sand, stones and aggregates from the Chure area.
He made the declaration while inaugurating the Pro-Public Library at the Office of the Peace Society Nepal at Gaighat, the headquarters of Udayapur district, today.
The Population and Environment Minister vowed that the government would not let the trend of mining and exporting of aggregates off the hook to the extent that it spoils the local environment around the Mahabharat and the Chure hill range.
On the occasion, he also directed the Chief District Officer in the district to take measures for checking this practice on immediate basis.
The Minister stated that the government has made provisions for extracting pebbles, sand and stones from designated places using only spade. But it is found that excavators are being used to extract the sand, stones and pebbles, he added.
On a different context, he alleged the Madhes-centric parties of trying to create trouble in the name of launching another movement again. He challenged the Madhes-centric parties to garner two-third votes in the parliament and amend the constitution if possible, rather than going on a protest.
