Kanchanpur, July 30: The world's rare wildlife, Bengal tiger, is found to be increasing in number at the Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve.
Number of Bengal tiger is on the rise in the Reserve over the past few years, which mainly attributes to the availability of adequate food, shelter and establishment and mobilization of counter poaching units.
Officer of Shuklaphanta Conservation Programme of National Nature Conservation Trust, Anil Prasain, said that the preservation of dense forest as the habitat of forest cat in and around the Reserve has significantly contributed to conserving tigers.
He further shared that a team of more than 20 technical enumerators counted 15 adult Bengal tigers including 6 female in the Reserve.
The two month census carried out from mid January to mid February of 2016 with the help of elephants found 15 tigers, he added. "Score of tiger kids are also found growing in numbers compared to the previous year", Conservation Officer Prasain added.
It was also found that the number of Bengal tiger which stood at the range of 8-12 before five years increased to 15-17 in 2071 BS.
According to the National Park and Wildlife Conservation Act 2029, the Bengal tiger that is classified as the conserved wildlife (Annex 1) is one of the impressive and beautiful animal across the globe.
